Staying in the Canal Saint Martin area
The Canal Saint Martin neighbourhood retains the appearance of a small village, although it is inhabited by a diverse local population consisting of models, actors, and artists; although many families also live in the area.
The quarter enjoys a reputation for being romantic and typically Parisian. The Canal Saint Martin was used to film a scene from the movie "The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain". In summer, the banks of the canal are taken over by Parisians looking for a place to picnic in the fresh air.
Major Paris attractions such as the Louvre, the Notre Dame and the Tuileries are easily accessible by metro (lines 2, 4, 5, 7 and 11) and bus. The major North and East stations (Gared u Nord et Gare de l'Est) are also nearby.
There are many things to do in terms of entertainment in this quarter, whether it's restaurants, cinemas (the Ritz, Luxor or the Brady, Boulevard de Strasbourg), theatres (the théâtre La Boussole and the Laurette théâtre) or other venues, such as the Ice Palace, located on the Rue du Faubourg du Temple. You really will be spoilt for choice!
If you want to go shopping, then you would be well-advised to stroll along the waterfront and browse the clothing boutiques, trendy decor shops and vintage accessory stores. Then, grab a drink at one of the terraced cafés bordering the canal, while watching barges and cruise ships.
At the north-eastern end of the neighbourhood, the canal extends towards the La Villette park, where you will find the Cité des Sciences, the biggest science museum in Europe. If you then head east, by the Avenue Mathurin Moreau, you will eventually join one of the largest open spaces in Paris, the Buttes Chaumont Park.
We also have other apartments in other quarters of the 10th arrondissement, such as Gare du Nord - Gare de l'Est, that are also well worth having a quick look at.
